Laura Cartwright is a North East based represented digital artist, graphic designer and founder of The Illustration NE Project. Her work has received national and international recognition, she has created artwork for major projects and clients worldwide.

Biography: Laura has been digitally creative for the past 6 years and has found creating vector based illustrations the perfect outlet for her creativity as an individual and It was only natural for her to progress into digital Illustration through her work.

She has exhibited her artwork throughout the North East in various galleries, shows and local businesses; She is also a represented artist in Paris where her work is exhibited on canvas in and around Paris. Recently she has also worked closely with an Art company in Germany where she has created new work for wall murals, deco stickers and canvas pieces to be sold worldwide.

Her work consists of a very traditional theme but created in a very modern medium. “I love to illustrate portraits; I find that this theme can create for the viewers an emotional reaction depending on what emotion I create within the pieces”. The most popular art from her collection is the Tattoo and Shoe series. These have been hugely successful for both Laura and space in which they are exhibited.

“I can’t really explain my work because the pieces I create don’t really have meaning behind them I just have the inspiration to create something beautiful.”

Laura is also the founder of The Illustration NE Project in Gateshead. She curates the exhibition once a year and the show has become one of Gateshead major art exhibitions and a must see within the arts community. The projects aim is to make art profitable and make Gateshead a hub for creative talent. The exhibition showcases both digital and tradition illustration from either emerging artist, professionals, students or hobbyists. It’s to shed light on the issue that within the Northeast we need to focus on our own talented artists and give them a platform in which to express themselves as well as make there work, work for them.
