The final design has an almost retro style with it’s simple vector bauble illustrations and turquoise, navy and red colour scheme.

As the late shows are upon us the amazing Toffee Factory in Newcastle are holding a Late Shows event for 2012. Their holding a vintage tea party to celebrate them throwing open their doors to the public for the very first time.

I was honoured when I was asked to provide decorative items from my British Tea Party collection for the event. So during the Late Shows at the Toffee Factory you will see my handmade Garlands hanging during the tea party. I’m very grateful for the opportunity to supply my items to such a great event and beautifully creative venue, and receive the coverage of thousands of people seeing my craft items.

The Toffee Factory will be open during the Late Shows 7-11pm Friday 18 and Saturday 19 May, with free guided tours and a Vintage Tea Party with music from Lady Koo and The Kooky Kitchen. The Late Shows (www.thelateshows.org.uk) is one of the UK’s largest and most established events as part of the international ‘Museums at Night’ festival, which takes place across Europe.

I thought I would share my latest design project with you all. I was asked to design a A5 16 page brochure for a manicure brand call Finesse which will be launching there new product line this month. As part of the launch they wanted a brochure that featured entire product range which has been designed and created from scratch but they wanted the design to be quite classical with a vintage theme but a modern style using a off magenta.

I thought I would share with you what I have been working on for early 2012. I created the artwork for British Tea Party back in 2011 with the intention of creating a range of products from the designs. Along with original framed artwork which will be 3D and featured in boxed frames I have designed a range of 3D greeting cards, 3D bunting, garland  &  hanging decorations. All products will be handmade with that 3D elements printed on the highest quality matt card stock. All products will be packaged to go on sale for late Feb to early March and will be available to buy wholesale.

More products will be added this is just a taste of what I’ve been working on.

This is my latest editorial piece for Novel Magazine Social Unrest issue 5 for a double page article called Little Red Shoes. The brief was to come up with an illustration of a pair of red Nike trainers that were depicted within the story. I decided to incorporate the title into the illustration using the laces so the illustration serves more then one purpose. The illustrations is all digitally based but the lace typography is hand rendered.

I thought I would share with you my little project I set myself for Halloween. I’ve handmade these candle holders for our yearly Halloween party which is in it’s 7th year now.

I started with ransacking the cupboards for jars, which I cleaned and removed the labels. I then got 6 different coloured sheets of tissue paper and covered each jar with a different colour. I brushed on the jar PVA glue then placed the paper on top, then brushed more glue on top of the paper to seal it in plus giving it a layer texture. Once all the jars were dry I then cutout stencils of various designs so it would give the jar a silhouette, then I glued the cutouts onto the jar. I’m very happy with how they have turned out and i will probably do a set of candle holders for Christmas too.

These are going to look so amazing outside on my balcony over Halloween.

Retro Christmas Handmade Greeting Cards 2011
In the range there is 6 new designs for Christmas 2011 which I’ve illustrated, design and hand made myself. Each design is 3D and of highest quality.

2011 Invitation designs, morgue tags – 3 variations 

These morgue tag designs are for Halloween 2011 designed and handmade by myself. The theme for this years invite is the morgue, I wanted to create a murder evidence goody bag with finger tag, servered finger, bloody bandages and Halloween confetti.

The tags are printed on matt 300gms textured card then mounted on 400gms brown card with double sided tape to give the invite thickness and weight. Then cut out and hole punched for the strige to be attached. I then took a tube of fake blood and went over all the blood splatters within the original design to give it more of a realistic look, I also put fake blood on the string attaching the finger. I then attached a plastic fake severed finger to the string and knotted it. To go with my murder evidence goody bag I cut up some bandages and stained them with more fake blood, popped both the finger tag and bandages into a clear sealable bag. To finish it off I added Halloween themed confetti to add that fun element to my invitations.

This is my 2010 Halloween invitation design, based on my stiletto series of illustrations. I wanted to make a very simple design that would be double sided and would fit within a black envelope. I illustrated, designed and hand made each invite. The Halloween design become quite popular so I decided to create it into a greeting / invite card for people to purchase from my online shop. It’s coming up to that time again when we all start to plan our Halloween Parties, thinking of our costumes and start to buy gallons of sweets for the trick or treaters. This Halloween I have released my Trick or Treat shoe art greeting card / party invitation.

I created this last year for my party invitation which I sent out to all my friends and family, so this design is a one off and will only be available as this card. The design features a gothic vampire stiletto with bat design, the card reads “Happy Halloween, Trick or Treat?”  This design can be given as a greeting card or party invitation but who ever you give it to it will make a perfect Halloween sentiment.

Retro Christmas Card Designs
This is just a quick update on what I’m working on at the moment. These are two new designs which I’ve created, new retro Christmas cards to be released November this year. Initial designs done for the DL sized cards, in the set of 6 designs there will be A6 cards as well as square 14 x 14cm cards. All of the designs will be 3D, as you can see they’re still in the concept stages but they’re slowly coming together. As for colour pallet I’m only using 4 colours red, blue, green and white I’m trying to keep it as simple as possible but still keeping it fun. Once the design’s are finished they will be printed on 380gsm recycled textured matt card to really give it that vintage feel as well as that nice weighty handmade feel.

The ILLUSTRATION NE 2011 EXHIBITION launch party was a roaring success! We had 200+ art lovers through the doors in less then 3 hours, quater of the artwork on the walls sold and many great items from our POP UP ART SHOP went like hot cakes. I hope this show has brought to light what great talent we have in the Northeast and raise the issue that we need to support local talent and exhibit more northern artist within the Northeast. I want to thank all the people that came to the launch party, you all helped support this project and made it a huge success. But an even bigger thank you to all the artists who were selected to best represent the region in all it’s creative glory, you guys made the show!

Well my job here is done for another year, so keep an eye for the next installment it’s going to be even bigger and better!

This is a little project I was giving to re-design the poster and flyer for the Cluny Craft Market in association with Newcastle Craft Mafia. The style we went for is a vintage summer fair style with bold typography in candy colours. The use of fabrics in the bunting design and the old paper textures really does give this a old fate vibe. This is just the start of the re-designing and re-development of the Newcastle Craft Mafia which is a collective of creative, crafty and artistic businesses joined together with the common goal of informing, making, doing, networking and supporting.

One of my most popular series of work is my Art Shoe Collection which I started back in 2007, every now and then I add a new piece to the series. This is my lastest addition to the collection. The Sailor is a nautical themed heel with a traditional sailor Jerry tattoo design. In the next few months I will be creating some more artwork in this series and creating prints and art cards from the new pieces.

I have designed sheets of gift wrap and 3D gift tags to be sold as 4 different gift sets in the theme of ice lolly, ice cream, cup cakes and chocolate strawberries. These gift sets are a new edition to my sweet treat cards which are available to buy via my online shop. Each set will contain 2 sheets of folded gift wrap, each sheet is A2 in size (42cm x 59.4cm or 16.5″ × 23.4″) and 2 3D gifts tags with string. I will also sell both the wrapping and tags separately so you can pick and choose what you want.

Calling all Fashionistas! Dates for your diary – 14 – 21 May 2011. Block the week out in your Smythson diary – Newcastle is hosting its own Fashion Week

Not to be outdone by London, New York, Paris or Milan – Newcastle will be celebrating 8 days of fashion frenzy with fashion shows, events, promotions and competitions spanning venues across the city.

Sunday the 15th of May The Settle Down Cafe will be hosting a very special Venus in Furs vintage market to celebrate Newcastle Fashion Week. From 12-8 there will be a mix of stalls from gorgeous hand made jewelry from the best crafter’s in the Northeast to the best vintage clothing available to buy. I will also have a stall selling my limited edition framed fashion themed illustration pieces.

Creative Spark and Spinning Yarns are presenting their Gorrilla Knit and cakes will be cooked in a Solar Oven. There is also a fashion exhibition by Venus in Furs photographer Antonia Clark and photographer Paula Smart. The day begins at 12 from the Settle Down Cafe. Food and beverages will be served throughout the day and beer and wine from 2pm. On top of all of this there will be amazing food available and a DJ spinning out some funky tunes.

So come down and treat yourself to an amazing day full of fun, fashion and more!

This is my latest project in which I am designing tote bags to go along side my shoe series of products. In time I will have a bag designed to go with each piece from my series of work. Each bag is hand dyed and printed and I have also hand made a shoe accessories to hand from the bag handle. These bags will be on sale at all my market stalls so keep an eye out.

Local artists are showcasing their latest vintage and modern bespoke jewellery and accessories this Sunday from the Settle Down Cafe. Stalls at the event will also include bags, cake stands, clothes, charms, cards, photography and bric a brac. Bacon and vegi sausages and homemade cakes will be served throughout the day…if you like a good coffee, the Settle Down does THE BEST!!!

Following the success of the Christmas Art Fair at the Sanctuary Artspace back in December 2010 we’re following it up with another art-tastic fair. On Saturday 9th April 2011 Sanctuary Artspace will again be hosting a diverse range of local artists, photographers and illustrators who will all be selling their work, from original pieces, posters and prints. Tea and coffee will be served throughout the day, so why not pop along and grab yourself some quality artwork from some top North-East artists!

Here are some photo’s of my stall at The Make and Mend Market at Newcastle’s Grainger Market. It was a very successful day selling art and cards and met some great new crafty creative people too. Great turn out and thank you to all who came down and hopefully will see you guys at the next market.

SHAMBOLICA

Over the last few of years Shambolica have been creating a multitude of different pieces ranging from installations in night clubs, music improvisation in forests to communal and performance art in gardens. Raw and full energy, beauty and chaos. Their work has consistently interacted with the public and the audience. At this years Science Fest in Newcastle Shambolica was very heavily involved with the event and created an interactive booth, where the public had fun glowing, sparkling, moving, spinning, twirling, creating and painting with light and movement.

With the Shambolica team, being very good friends of mine I thought I would share my images from the Science Fest 2011 with you guys. As you can see by the images we went mental with neon lights and the images look beautiful! I have to say a big thank you to team Shambolica for all the fun we had creating these gorgeous photos.

Second edition of the EASTER markets! Stalls offering wide range of hand made jewellery, cards, art work, clothing etc. I have my full range of art cards and hand made cards along with original art and prints  available. I also have a selection of my cards on sale, plus a great deal on my Sweet Treats collection of cards!. This market continues to be as FREE entry, so when in town, pop in to see what we’ve got to offer, THIS market is not to be missed!

My Sweet Treats Collection 2011 cards have ARRIVED!!!  For the past few weeks I have painstakingly hand made each of my cards from 12 of my designs. All 3 sets are 3D and come in 2 different sizes 14×14 and DL; all cards come with envelopes and sealed in a bag.

Each card is sold separately, signed and are limited edition. These will go on sale at the Spring Art Fair at the Sanctuary Art Space in Gateshead on the 9th of April 2011. If you miss that, I also have another market stall at the Tyne Bar Easter Market on Saturday 23rd April 2011.

This is just a little update on what I’m working on, this is my 1st and 2nd piece from my new series of art work for the summer. Based on flowers and butterflies this is a mix of clean vector based illustration mixed with different paper and fabric textures to give it a vintage feel. I will hopefully create 6-8 pieces in this series, as original 3d framed pieces available to buy along with limited edition art cards and prints.

Hello all, I have actually gotten round to uploading images of my new collection of card designs. My Sweet Treats Collection are new for 2011 and will be available to buy from the end of March. In this collection there are 3 sets of 4 cards all based around sweet foodie treats, each card is hand made by myself, signed and each card is limited edition. Not only are these extremely cute, fun and colourful in design but are also 3D! These cards make perfect little gifts for someone special, and who doesn’t like been giving something sweet…
